The area around South Broadway is best known for its charming restaurants, quaint independent shops, cool bars and taverns, but it is also home to many fantastic original Denver homes. Many of the homes in Baker and West Wash Park were built around the turn of the twentieth century, a time when homes were built with character and charm.
There are several styles that were popular during this era, here are a few you will encounter in this part of town.
The Denver Square

The “Denver Square” is a variation of the Four Square model. Name for its square shape, the Denver Square flourished after the silver crash of 1893 when homeowners turned away from flashy Victorians in exchange for this more modest design. Sears and Roebuck provided affordable kits that could be shipped daily via train and, as a result, you can now find the Denver Square on nearly every block within 5 miles of the city center.
The Classic Cottage

The Classic Cottage is essentially one floor version of the popular Four Square design. It features a hipped roof, a central dormer, flared eaves, and thick porch posts. This style is found throughout neighborhoods in Denver built between 1900-1930.
The Dutch Revival

Similar to the classic cottage, with a front facing gambrel (barn style) roof.
