This evening Nourish Community Market (Nourish) announced to it’s 757 member-owners at their annual meeting, that the location of their community-owned natural grocery store will be in Aurora’s Westerly Creek development, across from the Stanley Marketplace. The 10,000 sq ft Co-op will be located on the ground floor of a new mixed-use development called The Heights at Westerly Creek, located at 2352 Dallas Street in Aurora, CO. The new development project will include for sale condos above the Co-op and other retail outlets.
Nourish Community Market will be Northeast Denver’s first and only community-owned natural grocery store. A one-stop shop for high quality, locally sourced, natural and organic products and a business dedicated to serving our community. Nourish is a co-op, one of three retail food Co-ops starting up in Denver. It will join the Westwood Food Co-op, slated to open this year, and will be followed by the West Colfax Food Co-op which just recently incorporated at the end of 2015.
When Nourish incorporated in 2014, it was anticipated that the Co-op would be located in The Stanley Marketplace, a food-centric business hub located at 2501 Dallas Street, but our timelines did not align. The Stanley Marketplace, which is anticipated to open very soon, will be among the first new developments in Aurora’s Westerly Creek Village. The first new project was the opening of the Urban Land Conservatory’s New Legacy Charter School, a small public charter school located at 2091 Dayton Street, which opened in August 2015.
Currently the area is mostly comprised of commercial and industrial businesses with some retail, community organizations, and a single medium density housing development. The City of Aurora is investing in infrastructure projects to transition the area into a high-density, mixed-use and vibrant community that will connect Stapleton to Lowry. Westerly Creek Village is bordered by Denver’s Stapleton neighborhood to the West and to the North, Dayton Street is currently being extended from 26th to 25th Avenue to conveniently connect these neighborhoods and will open in the near future.
The property where The Heights at Westerly Creek will be located is currently operating as automotive-related businesses and this past June 2016 the property was rezoned from industrial to mixed-use. 5280 Development Group, the developer spearheading The Heights at Westerly Creek project, has been working with The City of Aurora closely to complement the goals of the Westerly Creek Urban Renewal Plan and accelerate the revitalization of this area. A member of the development team, and one of our first 100 member-owners of the Co-op, approached us after learning of our troubles finding a location. After further discussions and ensuring our goals for these community driven projects aligned, we established a lease with contingencies that works for all our interests. The contingencies will be removed once Nourish is able to secure all necessary financing.
